This is a reproduction of a 1940s women's jean. In many years of teaching classes and making jeans with the public, this fit has never drawn a single complaint. According to denim historian Dean Hashimoto, a Blue Bell/Wrangler factory made the style in the late 1930s to early 1940s—the small pockets and reverse yoke mark it as an early Blue Bell style. True to the original, it features a side-entry zipper and small, flattering back pockets.

A straight fit through the seat and thigh. The high waist sits at the hip, and the high back rise hugs the waist. It has a straight side seam and is made for use with selvedge denim.
This pattern is from the era of Shrink-To-Fit denim, so this jean fits like most Shrink-To-Fit blocks (vanity sizing). If you wear a size 27 waist in a Japanese repro brand or one of the Big 3 (Levi's, Lee or Wrangler), consider buying one size bigger.
The sample Mohsin traced was a true 27-inch waist, and the pattern has been graded to 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33.
Check the measurements carefully — compare them with a pair you own that fits you well, measured laid flat on the floor or a table.

All raw denim will shrink after washing — roughly two inches at the waist and two inches in length. This is only a guide, as all fabrics behave differently and shrink differently after washing. We recommend washing a 1m × 1m test piece of denim in a washing machine and measuring it before and after to see how much your fabric shrinks. Or simply wash your fabric before making your garment, knowing you will lose the raw denim look. Raw denim colour may transfer onto other surfaces.
