This style is a reproduction of the 1953 Type II jacket — itself a slightly updated, modified version of the iconic Type I first made in 1936. Created in rigid selvedge denim, it was considered the unofficial uniform of the American working man. True to the original, it features a double-pleated front, two chest pockets with flaps, and waist adjusters. We've also included an option for a back cinch, in case you'd rather not use the side adjusters.

True to the 1953 era, this jacket is cut slightly cropped through the body and sleeves, with generous room in the chest and armholes to accommodate a sweater or work shirt underneath.
This pattern is from the era of Shrink-To-Fit denim, so you may want to buy one size bigger.
The sample Mohsin traced fits like a Medium, and the pattern has been graded to XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL.
Check the measurements carefully — compare them with a jacket you own that fits you well, measured laid flat on the floor or a table.

All raw denim will shrink after washing — roughly two inches at the waist and two inches in length. This is only a guide, as all fabrics behave differently and shrink differently after washing. We recommend washing a 1m × 1m test piece of denim in a washing machine and measuring it before and after to see how much your fabric shrinks. Or simply wash your fabric before making your garment, knowing you will lose the raw denim look. Raw denim colour may transfer onto other surfaces.
